ISLAMABAD, May 11Pakistan has welcomed US President Donald
Trump’s statement on the longstanding Kashmir dispute, emphasizing the
importance of resolving the issue in accordance with United Nations
Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.
In a statement issued by the Foreign Office on Sunday, Spokesperson
Shafqat Ali Khan praised the efforts of the United States and other
friendly nations in brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan.
Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan reaffirmed Pakistan’s stance that any just
and lasting settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute must be in
accordance with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions
and must ensure the realization of the fundamental rights of the
Kashmiri people, including their inalienable right to
self-determination.
The spokesperson also appreciated the constructive role played by the
United States, alongside other friendly states, in supporting the recent
ceasefire understanding between Pakistan and India.
“Pakistan appreciates the constructive role of the United States, along
with other friendly states, in the Pakistan-India ceasefire,” the
spokesperson said. “This was a significant step towards reducing
tensions and ensuring stability in the region.”
He said Pakistan remains committed to engaging with the United States
and the international community in efforts to promote peace, security,
and prosperity in the region. He said we also look forward to deepening
our multifaceted partnership with the United States, particularly in the
areas of trade, investment and economic cooperation.
“We are committed to joining the United States and the international
community in efforts to promote peace and stability in South Asia,” the
spokesperson concluded. “We also look forward to further strengthening
our multilateral partnership with the United States.”
“We believe that the resolution of the Kashmir issue is not only
critical for the peace and security of South Asia but also for the
broader international community,” the spokesperson added.
It is worth mentioning here US President Donald Trump said late Saturday
he would increase trade “substantially” with India and Pakistan.
“I am going to increase trade, substantially, with both of these great
Nations,” he posted on TruthSocial after the rivals agreed to a
ceasefire after days of deadly fighting.
He also expressed his intention to increase trade with both countries
and vowed to work towards a solution to the Kashmir issue.
“While not even discussed, I am going to increase trade substantially
with both of these great nations. Additionally, I will work with you
both to see if, after a thousand years, a solution can be arrived at
concerning Kashmir,” Trump said in his post
